Despite its huge size and apparent robustness it has become clear that we live on a fragile planet and that how we live our daily lives has far-reaching effects on this beautiful and extraordinary place.
At Adventure Cornwall we strive to minimise our impact on the environment
and we will ensure that your stay at Lombard will be as carbon neutral as
possible:
We currently use green tariff electricity, solar heating
for the Link showers, and recycling facilities for most waste. We
will soon have a small wind turbine and solar photovoltaic (PV)
panel and will be installing a larger 6Kw turbine and PV panels within
the next two years.
A tree-planting program will offset carbon dioxide that is produced by your trip down to Cornwall and the use of existing oil-fired equipment at Lombard. We have already planted over 1,500 trees and will donate 5% of cost of your holiday to plant trees during the winter following your stay.
If you arrive by electric vehicle, we will refund 5% of your holiday
and allow you to recharge your car for free!
In addition we use low energy light bulbs wherever possible and
all cleaning/washing produces are eco-friendly
Within three years will use only renewable fuels. This will include
ground source heatpumps for underfloor heating in both houses, solar
water heating for domestic hot water and we will create all our own
electricity with windmills and photovoltaic cells. Local journeys
will be by electric car and longer journeys by diesel vehicles
running on vegetable oil. All water will come from local springs and
our well.
In time we plan to build 'the Green House'. Built with the minimum use of fossil fuels and maximum use of recycled and renewable materials, it will not use any fossil fuels in its operation including; heating, domestic hot water or cooking.
It will be a cool, contemporary place to stay and will provide a hands-on
insight into how it's possible to live in comfort whilst only leaving a
light footprint on this fragile earth.
